City of Cape Town invites unemployed youth to apply for Cadet Fire Fighter Learnership Programme 2025.
About the Company
The Fire Cadets is a uniformed youth organisation. Fire Cadets provides fun and challenging inclusive opportunities for young people to reach their full potential contributing to safer, stronger and healthier communities. Run by volunteers, the Fire Cadet Branch is based in Droitwich. They meet every Wednesday 19:00-21:00hrs. Fire Cadets are aged 13 – 17 years. We recruit new Cadets every June to start in September. In order to join you must be no older than 16 on 1 June of that year. New Cadets take part in a structured training programme from September to May where they learn a wider variety of skills and practical exercise that focuses on Fire Service activities, prevention activities and social responsibility. The culmination of this training is the Fire Cadet Award 1 and a Celebration of Success event in early May where they demonstrate their new found skills to their families. Cadets also take part in a wide range of other activities including fundraising and adventurous pursuits.

Required Qualifications
Eligibility Criteria: Age: 18 years or older Education: Grade 12 (Mathematics and Physical Science preferred) Physical Requirements: Must be medically and physically fit, not afraid of confined spaces or heights. Other Requirements: No criminal record, ability to work in a team, and handle stressful situations. Fitness Test: Candidates must pass the following: Reach Test: 1.9 meters 2.4 km run: Males in 11 minutes, Females in 13 minutes Push-ups: 30 in 60 seconds Sit-ups: 30 in 60 seconds Dead load carries: 2 x 25 kg drums over 100 meters Additional Requirements for Successful Candidates: Written assessment and interview Fingerprinting and criminal record check City medical evaluation Drug test Claustrophobia and acrophobia test Special Conditions: Candidates must live within the City of Cape Town municipal area No permanent employment guaranteed after completing the program Only unemployed applicants will be considered Must wear a uniform and protective clothing Application Process: Online application only via e-Recruitment on the City of Cape Town website Documents required: Certified copy of South African ID and Matric certificate No late applications will be accepted Smartphones are not compatible with the online application system, but library computers can be used if you are a member
