The successful applicant will report directly to the Assistant Building Foreman and will assist in maintaining civil works, managing stores, and supporting artisans to ensure efficient maintenance and operational activities.
Role Purpose

The Workshop Stores Assistant (Civil) ensures the smooth functioning of civil maintenance operations by managing stock, assisting artisans, and maintaining safety protocols. By providing a structured and organized approach to inventory, tool distribution, and minor civil repair tasks, this role significantly contributes to the overall efficiency and safety of Rand Water’s operations.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Workshop Stores Assistant (Civil) can be divided into the following key areas:

1. Inventory Management

Stock Maintenance: Ensuring that the material and stock levels are accurately maintained and adequately replenished to meet operational requirements.

Proper Record-Keeping: Maintaining precise records of materials, spares, and tools issued or returned to the stores.

Security of Stores: Safeguarding all materials, tools, and equipment in the store to prevent theft, loss, or damage.


Drawing Materials: Facilitating the withdrawal and dispatch of materials and spares required for civil work.

2. Tools and Equipment Handling

Tool Distribution: Issuing tools, materials, and equipment to artisans promptly as per their job requirements.

Daily Vehicle Checks: Performing checks on vehicles used for operations to ensure their functionality and safety.

Maintenance and Inspection:

Checking portable electrical tools, hand tools, and fire extinguishers.

Reporting missing or defective equipment to the supervisor.

Ensuring safe operations of workshop machines.

3. Supporting Civil Maintenance

Qualifications and Skills

Minimum Requirements

To be eligible for the position, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

Education:

Grade 12 (Senior Certificate).

Experience:

At least two years of relevant experience as an Artisan Assistant in a workshop environment.

Licensing:

A valid Code EB driver’s license with the ability to pass Rand Water’s K53 driver test.


Training:

Basic Safety Training.

Fire extinguisher handling skills.
