Role and Responsibilities

Job Purpose: The primary objective of the Shop Assistant is to maximize sales through exemplary customer service, ensuring that each customer interaction is memorable and impactful.

Introduction

Toys R Us and Babies R Us South Africa are seeking a meticulous and experienced Payroll and Benefits Administrator to join their Human Resources team in Durban North, KwaZulu-Natal. This role is integral to ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, as well as managing employee benefits. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in payroll administration, a keen eye for detail, and a comprehensive understanding of payroll regulations and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Payroll Processing:
    • Oversee and execute payroll operations for employees, handling wages, overtime, and other earnings for both South African and international stores, including those in Zambia, Botswana, and Namibia.
    • Ensure all payroll transactions are accurate and processed in a timely manner.
  2. Compliance and Record Keeping:
    • Guarantee adherence to legal standards and best practices related to payroll.
    • Maintain and regularly update payroll records, including attendance, overtime, and summaries.
  3. Audits and Tax Reporting:
    • Perform periodic audits of payroll data to verify accuracy and rectify discrepancies.
    • Prepare and file payroll tax returns and payments, managing all related tax reporting requirements.
  4. Employee Inquiries and System Management:
    • Address payroll-related inquiries from employees promptly and effectively.
    • Manage and update the payroll system (SAGE 300 People) to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  5. Benefits Administration and Garnishees:
    • Coordinate payroll processes with employee benefits, ensuring correct deductions for medical aid, provident fund, and other benefits.
    • Handle wage garnishments, levies, and other mandated withholdings.
  6. Reporting and Process Improvement:
    • Generate and distribute payroll reports to management as needed.

  7. Unions and Leave Management:
    • Administer union payments and manage leave records using the Jarrison clocking system, integrating this data into payroll processing.
  8. New Starters and Terminations:
    • Ensure timely inclusion of new employees into the payroll system and proper processing of terminations.
  9. Filing and UIF Management:
    • Manage the filing and archiving of payroll documents.
    • Handle UIF documents for various reasons, including maternity and dismissal.
  10. SARS and Workman’s Compensation:
    • Ensure compliance with SARS regulations, including monthly EMP201 submissions, UIF, SDL, PAYE, and IRP5s.
    • Manage workman’s compensation, including yearly payments and IOD claims.
  11. Ad Hoc Duties:
    • Perform additional tasks as required by the HR department.

Desired Experience and Qualifications

  • Educational Background: A qualification in Payroll, Human Resources, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience as a Payroll Administrator or in a similar role is required, with a preference for experience using SAGE 300 People.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of South African tax regulations and experience with SARS submissions is essential.
