Museum Officer Job Purpose

The main purpose of this role is to oversee, facilitate, and preserve the natural and cultural history within the museum context. The Museum Officer will manage various administrative and public-facing duties to enhance the museum’s role in society.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: An appropriate 3-year National Diploma/B-Degree (equivalent or higher qualification).
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in the museum/heritage sector environment.
  • Recommendation: A valid code B (or higher) driving license. Note: Individuals with disabilities that restrict driving abilities but have reasonable access to transport may also apply.

Key Performance Areas

  • Governance and Administration: Oversee the administration of the museum and related activities.
  • Public Programmes and Relations: Facilitate, present, and implement public programmes.
  • Educational and Outreach Programmes: Develop and execute educational and outreach initiatives.
  • Research and Exhibitions: Conduct research and implement exhibitions.
  • Promotion and Marketing: Assist with the promotion and marketing of the museum.
  • People Management: Manage staff and volunteers to ensure smooth museum operations.

Remuneration

  • Salary: R 308 154 per annum (Salary level 7).
