For 2025, the Department of Water and Sanitation will consider bursary applications for the following qualifications:
Undergraduate Degrees
- BSc/BEng in Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering
- BSc in Hydrology, Geohydrology, Water Project Management, Environmental and Water Sciences
- BSc (Hons) in Hydrology, Geohydrology, Water Project Management, Environmental and Water Sciences
- National 3-year Diploma/BEng Tech in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current), and Water Care

Department of Water and Sanitation Bursary Application Process
- Format: Use BLOCK LETTERS only.
- Complete Information: Ensure all particulars and required documents are provided and signed.
- Application Submission: Submit your application forms via email to bursaries@dws.gov.za.
- Application Timeline: Applications open on 1 May 2024 and close on 30 September 2024. Late applications will not be considered.
Required Documents
- Grade 12 Certificate: Attach a copy of your Grade 12 certificate.
- Current Academic Results: If Grade 12 is not yet completed, attach the latest results (Grade 11 and/or first semester Grade 12 results).
- Identification: Attach a certified copy of your ID.
- University Admission Proof: First-time/new students must attach a copy of the proof of application/provisional acceptance letter/firm offer from the university.
- Postgraduate Proof: Hons students in the first year should attach the academic record of their undergraduate studies and proof of acceptance for the postgraduate qualification.
