Every year, South African youth are asked to apply for teaching assistant and general school assistant jobs as part of the government’s employment effort to eliminate unemployment in South Africa.
Overview
The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) has partnered with the Presidency (through the Presidential Youth Employment Intervention) to launch SA Youth, a national network offering young South Africans free access to learning and earning opportunities.
The NYDA will be collaborating with Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator, key government departments, the private sector, and civil society to launch SA Youth.
SA Youth allows young people free access to online work-seeker support resources, including:
- Teachers assistant Jobs
- General School Assistant Jobs
- hustling resources
- preparation for the world of work
- learnership, volunteering and further studies resources
- wellness and selfcare support
Selection criteria for Teachers Assistant Jobs and General School Assistant Jobs
- Be a South African resident aged between 18 – 34 years old.
- Live within 5km of an urban school or within 30km of a rural/farm school.
- Be anyone who did not participate in any o the previous Phases.

Step 1: Go to the SAYouth website
Step 2: Register an account
Step 3: Log in with your details
Step 4: In the search bar, you should type
‘school assistant’ or search for the name of the school closest to you
Step 5: A list of jobs available in your area will come up which will also include the opportunity cards for the schools that are closest to you, Only apply at schools that you have easy access to
Step 6: Click the ‘read more’ button which would enable you to see further details about the job
